Malcolm McKenzie – National Placements Manager
The current demand for resources is unprecedented with a surge in requests for Project Managers, Asset Managers, Procurement/Contract Managers, Accountants, Governance specialists, HR specialists and Property Officers.
Driving this appears to be a lack of available resources in the sector due to a combination of a number of Covid related factors.
- There are fewer resources to service industry on the whole due to people being off work to isolate or not returning to work because of their vaccine status.
- Reduced resources across all sectors is driving increased competition for resources and increasing churn. eg. the government sector is now competing with the private sector for resources.
- Increased churn is also occurring within the government sector with people moving from one organisation to another to fill vacancies. This is creating more temporary vacancies that need to be filled whilst recruitment takes place.
- Increased government stimulus spending is compounding the problem by creating more demand for the scarce resources available.
These factors have created a perfect storm for a high level of resource demand. We are now also trying to position ourselves for flood recovery work in northern NSW and SEQ. The good news is that this creates opportunities for placements across a range of disciplines.
