Q & A – Associate Tony Raven

Q&A provides an interesting insight to our Associates who are working in their own business sometimes after many years of permanent employment. This is Tony’s story:

Associate Tony Raven joined CT Management Group in January 2020 and is currently engaged in a placement at the Wangaratta Rural City Council as Manager Governance. Tony joined CT Management Group after full time employment at the City of Greater Geelong and previous to that 10 years at the Wangaratta Rural City Council.

We value your contribution to CT Management Group; what drew you to becoming a consultant?

The flexibility and variety of projects together with the support provided by CT Management were very attractive to me.

What is your specialist area, and why are you interested in that field?

My specialisation is in the governance area, driven to a large extent by a keen interest in helping councils to allow people to be involved in public life in a fair and transparent manner.

What has been your career highlight to date?

Assisting 2 dismissed councils to return to elected representation in the last 7 years.

What was the last thing you read – was it a report, novel or newspaper?

A novel by Bernard Cornwell – War of the Wolf (the latest installment of the Last Kingdom series).

How to you relax – is it music, meditation or something else?

I relax with family.

When you are away from work, what do you like doing most?

Caravanning.

Are you a sportsman or a spectator, and what’s the sport?

Spectator.  I have followed the Hawthorn Football Club since 1965.

Is there anything you’d like to tell us about yourself that you think would surprise us?

Before local government, I worked in the private sector managing a 400-person wood products manufacturing operation and then as national supply chain manager of a $250m per year business.

In a world with so many leaders and achievers – is there one person that gives you inspiration, why?

I must admit that the way Scott Morrison has gone about bringing the LNP coalition together after years of infighting has been spectacular.  He has brought good governance back to the government after winning an election that most pundits thought was impossible.
