Sustainable Council Program

By Michael Courtney, Managing Director

CT Management’s Sustainable Council Program assists Councils to develop strategies aligned to capacity and capability to deliver in a financially sustainable framework.

The program establishes the agenda for community consultation and facilitates the issues around Council’s capacity to deliver against the community’s service and infrastructure priorities.

The Sustainable Council Program can be offered in separate elements or alternatively as a total program over a 6 to 12-month period.

The Sustainable Council Program is a forerunner to the Victorian Local Government Act 2019 as it supports many of the longer-term strategic planning initiatives required under the new legislation.

Overcoming the Recycling Challenge – Still a long way to go

By Malcolm McKenzie, Regional Manager Vic/Tas

With the recent closure of SKM Recycling facilities by the EPA, the issue of Recycling is back at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Just over 12 months ago China’s ban on the importation of recyclable materials caused a scurry of activity within the waste management industry, local government and state & federal government agencies as solutions were identified to address what should be done with recyclable material. By and large one approach appears to be to stockpile the material until someone comes up with an answer.

This approach may have bought some time in the short term but has caught up with the industry with the recent crackdown on SKM and once again councils desperately searching for alternate solutions for alternative outlets for material.

Asset Management – Building Condition Assessments

By Owen Harvey, Executive Director Queensland

From strategic to operational requirements, CT Management Group understand the importance of Councils undertaking reviews of their Infrastructure Assets. These reviews have an impact on operational and renewal budgets. Regular condition assessments also assist in prioritising Service Delivery Long Term Financial Planning.

CT Management Group provides a Condition & Maintenance Review Services for Buildings, Parks and Gardens, and Roads as an independent assessment and review of Council’s assets and is performed by our qualified Asset Management Associates.

More than ever before, organisations need to critically review all buildings and match service levels to their needs.

Q&A – Associate Graeme Taylor

Q&A provides an interesting insight to our Associates who are working in their own business sometimes after many years of permanent employment. This is Graeme’s story:

After 20 years working for Government, what drew you to becoming a consultant?

The continual cycles of restructure and then another restructure, change for change’s sake with no real perceived benefit and a lack of leadership within the executive ranks of the Public Service. I started thinking life must be more fulfilling on the other side…….and I was correct!!!

What is your specialist area, and why are you interested in that field?

I specialise in fire and emergency management, with an area of focus being bushfire risk and protection of communities, assets and the environment.

Building Condition Assessments & Maintenance Review

CT Management Group’s Building Condition Assessment & Maintenance Review is a service that ensures building maintenance priorities align with community’s needs while meeting Asset Management requirements. It provides management with updated building portfolio assessment making it possible to address condition and maintenance issues.

The review improves customer service by determining ‘hot spots’ through spatial integration, improving works planning and enhancing Asset Management through more accurate and frequent data collection.

Rohan Crowe recently completed inspections of Campaspe Shire’s assets and indicated that he is enjoying building condition assessment projects as it extends the knowledge he has gained over many years in the building industry.
