Q & A – Associate Peter Dunn

Peter joined CT Management Group as An Associate in January 2022. We welcome Peter’s contribution to the company and this month we learn a little more about Peter and what drew him to CT Management Group.

1.    We value your contribution to CT Management Group; what drew you to becoming a consultant?

I very much enjoy the work associated with Project Management with its many layers of requirements from inception to delivery. The variety and sometimes complexity of the work provides satisfaction and positive outcomes to the benefit of an organization and/or its recipients.

2.    What is your specialist area, and why are you interested in that field?

My expertise is within the Construction area of Project Management where it is necessary to work as a Team and consult with all stakeholders along the pathway to the delivery of a successful project. Project Management is often about working with different personnel as well as the procurement as the deliverable. Complex situations are both interesting and challenging.

3.    As an Associate, what aspects of your engagement have you found satisfying?

The different applications and engagements that are required to be undertaken with an organization or client are both exciting and interesting as each project often has challenging and complex needs. Satisfaction is derived from working towards the best outcome for the client and providing a deliverable that improves the situation. My recent work with the State Emergency Service has been about improving amenities in a Unit to give them the opportunity to be professional in recruitment.

The latest new build Unit in Dunkeld is a first for the organization and will hopefully be replicated for meeting the need in this regional area and also being a very cost-effective delivery.

4.    What would be two key learnings you have taken from your engagements?

  • Always be open to the client’s needs and work as a team to deliver the best outcome.
  • Where possible offer solutions from your experience that could improve the outcomes.

5.    Do you feel a Councils appreciation for the contribution you have made to a project or placement?

One is not looking for appreciation, but it sometimes comes from the least expected personnel or aspects of work where you have dedicated your efforts to improving the situation.

6.    When you are away from work, how do you relax?

I enjoy my garden and achieving improvements around the house. I also enjoy my family and watching my grandchildren mature and tackle life’s challenges.

I am a staunch Tigers supporter in the AFL and as an MCC member watch a number of games throughout the season including every year at the Grand Final. I also enjoy reading autobiographies.

7.    Is there something you’d like to tell us about yourself that you think would surprise us?

At the age of 49 I went back to University part time as a mature age student to complete my master’s degree in project management at RMIT University.

At 69 I achieved the criteria and study to qualify registration as an Unlimited Domestic Builder with the Victorian Building Authority.

8.    In a world with so many leaders and achievers – is there one person that gives you inspiration, why?

Nelson Mandela for his sheer determination related to racial injustice – his ability to stand up after being incarcerated for years and coming out with humility and compassion was impressive.

There are so many injustices in our world today that reflecting upon his life is inspirational – he stood tall without confrontation – a great lesson in this day.
